About the center
The remote sensing research and development center of The Estonian Academy of Security Sciences is the leading competence center in the field of internal security for remote sensing technology.
To offer applied research and know-how in the field of internal security through research and development in order to integrate opportunities arising from using remote sensing technologies into related areas of activity.
Main goals of the center that was created in 2022:
- to explore and test unmanned robotic systems that allow remote sensing
- to offer solutions of using remote sensing in the field of internal security
- integrating the gathered research data into internal security education.
Research focus and priorities
- Constant monitoring of public space (patrolling, regular state supervision) with the aim of prevention and quicker discovery
- Raising the situational awareness of operations carried out in public (and sometimes not so public) space
- Capturing situations and evidence in order to make proceedings faster and more effective
Selected research topics
- Research project on topic „Mapping of traffic accident scenes “
- Research project supported by Frontex on the topic: „Developing of the collecting and digitalising methodology of the data from the land border violation places using unmanned aircraft systems which is suitable as evidence in court.“
- Project in cooperation with Estonian Aviation Academy : „Perspectives on the use of UAVs across governmental agencies in the field of Internal Security“
- Different opportunities for the application of space technology in governance of the Ministry of the Interior
