Estonia has 267 new internal security officials
On 19 June, Katri Raik, the rector of the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences gave Bachelor’s and Master’s degree diplomas and vocational education certificates to 267 new internal security officials. This year there were 15 alumni graduating with honours.
This year, there were 19 Master’s level students, 41 students of the Financial College, 30 students of the College of Justice, 111 students of the Police and Border Guard College and 66 students of the Rescue College graduating from the Academy.
In addition to the diplomas, the best students were awarded. Estonian Rectors’ Conference of Universities of Applied Sciences awarded their scholarship to the author of the best graduation paper of the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences. This year the scholarship went to Sten-Eric Sibul, a cum laude graduate of the Financial College, whose graduation paper was called “Problems Related to the Application of the Sharing Economy Regulation, on the Example of the Area of Transport”.
Kelly Miido’s graduation paper “Patrol police officer’s heart rate and ability to act connectivity while solving simulation tasks” was awarded with a scholarship for the most innovative graduation paper. In addition to that, the Academy acknowledged the students having written the best graduation papers of their college and having received the highest results at the graduation exams.
At the ceremony, the graduates were greeted by Katri Raik, the rector of the Academy and the Minister of the Interior, Andres Anvelt. “A wanderer must go, the road awaits him. A wanderer mustn’t stop, there’s passion flaming in his heart...” with these lyrics the rector warmly sent off the graduates. “Use the skills acquired at the Academy in the best possible way, and be clever and responsible when applying your rights,” Katri Raik recommended.
After his resignation, Priit Männik, rector of the Academy from 2005-2010, started a scholarship for the author of the Master’s thesis that is the easiest to apply in practice. Yesterday he awarded the scholarship to Mihkel Sildnik, whose thesis focused on “The Level of Preparedness of the Local Governments for Autonomously Dealing with Crises and Reducing the Vulnerability by Providing Vital Services, Carrying Out an Evacuation and Managing Crisis Communication”.
The traditions of the Academy also include the handover of Ilppo Valta Cup to the most outstanding alumnus of the Financial College. This year the Cup was given to Sirle Orav-Hinno, a lawyer at the Tax and Customs Board, who graduated from the Financial College in 2010.
People attending the ceremony could also enjoy a musical greeting by Lenna Kuurmaa and the Police and Border Guard Orchestra, conducted by Hando Põldmäe.
